IELTS test dates, fees and locations

To book your test you will need to:

1. Include your correct email address to enable you to receive key information about your test.
2. Please note that candidates will not be allowed to take the test without the original ID document. The ID document should be a Passport/ National ID issued by the National Identification Authority for Ghanaians. Student ID, Voter ID, and driver’s license will not be accepted. The ID document is strictly a valid Passport for non-Ghanaians. Any other identity document will not be accepted. Please note that candidates under 18 years of age have to supply written consent by a parent or guardian in order to apply for a test place.
3. Pay for your test. You can pay for your test either through our online registration system (Credit card/Debit Card or Mobile Money) or via bank transfer to any branch of Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana using the British Council Virtual Account deposit slip.See our Mobile Money FAQs here.

Important registration information for IELTS on paper

If you’re not officially a resident in Ghana, you will not be able to sit an IELTS on paper test. However, you can still take the test on computer so please do choose that option.

Already booked an IELTS on paper test and you do not hold Ghanaian nationality?

• If you booked your test before 10 December 2024, you will not need to show proof of residence.
• If you booked your test after 10 December 2024, you will need to show proof of residence by email at least three days before your test date.

Acceptable proof of residence includes:

1. A valid Student Visa (stating purpose, length of visa and expiry date) stamped in the passport.
2. A valid Work Permit (2 documents) including Visa (stating status and expiry) stamped in the passport and Work Permit card (showing expiry date).

You can also take IELTS Online (IELTS Academic only) from the comfort of your home or any private space with a stable internet connection.

• If you are taking IELTS in a British Council official centre, you can choose your Speaking test slot whether you take IELTS on computer or on paper.
• If you take IELTS Online, your Speaking test will usually be scheduled before your Listening, Reading and Writing. It could be on the same or a different day.

Your Listening, Reading and Writing sections of the test will be completed on the same day with no break in between.

After you have booked your test, we will confirm the following information by email:

• the start time of your test 
• where you will take your test
• your Speaking test date and time
• your access to IELTS Ready Premium. 

Your payment will be confirmed within two working days should you choose to make a bank payment, so you can contact us after that period if you have not received a confirmation of payment. Online payments will be confirmed instantly after payment has been made.
