Role overview

Main Duties and Responsibilities

All duties and responsibilities will be in line with British Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Child Protection and other overarching corporate policies: 

Project Management and Delivery: Project implementation

o To lead the implementation of regional/allocated projects in HE, connecting British Council Ghana with sources of expertise (external) and leading and advising on day to day programming. 

o To be responsible for implementing specific projects and related activities with leadership and advice which supports strategy development.

o To provide financial and technical reporting to external clients and customers.

o To support project improvement by applying the findings from project evaluation – including evaluation of specific projects and activities, which support strategy development.

o To work with other large scale projects or share knowledge and impact

o To track, monitor and evaluate the impact of the IHE products 

o To ensure that audience numbers for engagement are met

o To provide advice on future development

o To ensure effective monitoring, tracking and evaluation of IHE programmes

o To ensure mechanisms for gathering data are in place and project monitoring and reporting is done in a timely fashion and against agreed criteria to meet regional project owners   and corporate        requirements

o To communicate findings from project evaluations beyond immediate project teams as appropriate.

o To capture and appropriately disseminate lessons learned 

o To design, develop and deliver projects consistent with corporate procedures and standards and to the satisfaction of regional project owners and project boards.

o To identify and report risks surrounding the delivery of the project to the Ghana Senior Management team, regional project owner(s) in a timely fashion and in line with relevant corporate standards

Relationship Management: 

o To provide support to Ghana’s country director, and other BC colleagues in managing and developing relationships and project stakeholders including consultants

o To contribute to the development and manage the implementation of a partners identification strategy/ implementation for the projects.

o To develop relationships with FE and HE sectors in UK and help build their interest in working in Ghana and the cluster/SSA region.

o To develop an effective network of interest and stakeholders across the Ghana, region and in UK 

o To obtain feedback from clients / customers, partners, sponsors  and other Stakeholders, and act on in order to develop the business and maintain and improve quality standards

o To monitor benefits and impact derived from relationships and foster them as appropriate

Strategy development:

o To contribute to the development of Ghana’s International Higher Education (IHE) strategy by drawing on knowledge of the higher education sector and where appropriate, further education sector(s), the needs and expectations of external stakeholders and market opportunities.

o To ensure positive feedback from HE ( Higher Education) stakeholders

o To contribute to country strategy supporting projects and other activities to the satisfaction of the Country Director

Financial Planning and management:

o To plan and manage finances in coordination with country teams for specific projectsand other activities, which support strategy development.

o To prepare business plans for the successful delivery of BC SIEM in Ghana and to work closely with UK team to achieve BC SIEM Income target for each financial year

o To manage budgets efficiently and effectively, including accurate monthly cash forecast 

Human resource and team management

o To motivate, monitor and coordinate the Ghana project implementation team

o To provide coaching, mentoring and support for the implementation team as necessary in order to build project management and HE capacity in Ghana and within our cluster/region

o To support the analysis of skills and other developmental needs, and subsequent learning and development initiatives.

o To input into the performance management and evaluation of the implementation team  members

o To make demonstrable contributions to learning and development initiatives

o To represent the team at management meetings

Procurement: 

o To ensure all procurement and contract for service are in line with corporate and client    policy and that documentation is robust and stored appropriately for future reference.

Marketing and Communications: 

o To ensure that project is marketed internally and externally to the highest standards in print (press, publications), digitally (websites, social media, TV, radio) and at events  (conferences, workshops, meetings). To work collaboratively with external agencies and clients

Monitoring and evaluation:  

o To ensure that all project inputs have a monitoring process embedded, that evaluations  are conducted and lessons learned fed into ongoing project design and delivery.

Other administrative work: 

o As required and delegated by Country Director

Special requirements for the job

Some evening and weekend work is required

Skills and Qualifications

First Degree from a recognised university

Experience of managing projects with other partners

Experience of managing the delivery of projects using outsourced providers
